Thermo King adds Precedent temperature control trailer platform

The company said its new Precedent trailer temperature control platform is built from the ground up to deliver double-digit fuel savings, best-in-class performance and lower lifecycle costs, while providing regulatory compliance and peace of mind for trailer owners and operators.

Thermo King said its new Precedent trailer temperature control platform is built from the ground up to deliver double-digit fuel savings, best-in-class performance and lower lifecycle costs, while providing regulatory compliance and peace of mind for trailer owners and operators.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2013, Thermo King said it would also offer a full range of truck and auxiliary power unit (APU) solutions compliant with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 final regulations for engine emissions. These units will set new industry standards in both fuel efficiency and emissions control.

“Building on a long history of state-of-the-art engineering, we called on our global development teams to create breakthrough solutions that add value while providing regulatory compliance,” said Ray Pittard, president of Thermo King North America. “The innovative Precedent platform and new truck and APU solutions provide our customers with the peace of mind that they have met regulatory requirements while delivering leading performance, significant fuel savings and lower life cycle costs—all tested under real world conditions.”

The Precedent features a completely new platform for the trailer market designed to be fully compliant with the new EPA Tier 4 final regulations. According to the maker, these units provide the industry’s most sustainable solutions and a complete range of options for any customer, including:

  • The S-600, a greater-than-25 HP single temperature unit with an evergreen engine for use in California.
  • The S-700, a greater-than-25 HP high capacity single temperature unit with an evergreen engine for use in California.
  • The C-600, a less-than-25 HP single-temperature unit with an allowed useful life in California of seven years.

The Precedent platform features a new diesel direct electric architecture to deliver optimum efficiencies, temperature control and double-digit fuel savings across real-world applications, Thermo King said. The Precedent S-series features a cutting-edge fuel injection system that delivers optimal fuel injection at exactly the right time to control particulate matter emissions within the engine cylinders. Both the C-Series and S-series offer a variety of maintenance programs – through the nationwide Thermo King network of more than 200 dealers – to help customers keep their units running at optimal performance, the company added.

Thermo King also unveiled new regulation-compliant solutions available in 2013, including T- Series enhancements and the TriPac Evolution APU. Thermo King T-Series truck refrigeration units will achieve compliance with EPA Tier 4 final regulations and be available in the first quarter of 2013. Compliance will be achieved through a combination of technologies including new engines and an electronic throttling valve (ETV) to deliver improved pulldown and fuel efficiency, the company said.
