Trojan Battery Co., a manufacturer of deep cycle batteries, introduced its new TransPower ST1000, a high performance AGM 31 heavy-duty starting battery. Providing exceptional cranking power of 1000 C.C.A., Trojan’s TransPower ST1000 is built specifically for demanding heavy duty starting applications and complements Trojan’s portfolio of AGM lead acid batteries for the heavy-duty trucking market, according to the company.
“Trucks, refrigeration units and commercial vehicles that depend on batteries with superior cranking power will find the TransPower ST1000 to be the highest quality AGM starting truck battery available in the industry today,” said Elke Hirschman, vice president of marketing for Trojan Battery.
The battery is a sealed, maintenance-free AGM 31 starting battery engineered for rugged durability, outstanding cranking power and long battery life. Design features that contribute to the TransPower’s overall performance and durability include an advanced paste formulation, a heavy-duty plate design and polypropylene case, the maker said.
According to the company, battery performance and longevity are influenced by the physical structure of the active material. Delivering high cranking power requires a paste formulation with high porosity characteristics and maximum surface area. Longer battery life requires higher density paste characteristics. The Trojan TransPower ST 1,000 features a high-density paste formulation, which optimizes density, porosity and surface area achieving the right balance of power and longevity, the company said.
The battery is constructed using a heavy-duty plate design that is thicker than standard starting battery plates. Engineered with a combination of high-density paste and a thick wire grid design, the heavy-duty plate construction delivers nearly double the battery life of a standard flooded starting battery, according to Trojan. Within the plate design is a grid network constructed with thick wires arranged in a sunburst array architecture. The grid wires are thick wires that are highly resistant to corrosion, which is a typical failure mode in batteries. The sunburst array guides the battery’s power to a focal point of charge resulting in 1,000 cold cranking amps. The heavy-duty plate design tolerates extreme weather conditions and high under-hood temperatures.
The battery is packaged in a thick-walled, durable polypropylene case that is rigid to keep the internal components of the battery compressed. This case structure effectively protects the plates from damage that is caused by shock and vibration. The polypropylene case is resilient against engine oil, gasoline and other road chemicals. It comes with a 36-month warranty in the U.S. and Canada and is supported through Trojan’s global network of master distributors.
