Haldex Commercial Vehicle Systems has announced a unique design for Novabus that incorporates the Dryest Air Drying system working in parallel with a condenser and external governor. The system consists of two desiccant-type air dryers working in tandem, to remove humidity, dirt particles and oil from the compressed air system. This system reduces the risks of freezing and corroding air components. The Haldex tandem system operates in parallel to supply clean, dry air for high flow rates, the company explained.

The tandem design meets or exceeds 2010 CFM capacity standards up to 80 CFM for high capacity compressors. This design will allow the compressor to operate cooler without back-pressure and allow the air system in the vehicle to fill quickly and stay at higher air pressure levels for longer periods, Haldex added.

The tandem air dryers have built in drain ports with tubing to direct fluids away from the operating environment. Desiccant life is expected to last from two to three years between cartridge changes, the company said.

Where competitive twin dryer systems alternate drying and purge times, causing constant air consumption, Haldex said its system purges only when the compressor shuts off, saving air and energy.
