Factory-installed compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) systems will be available on Freightliner Cascadia tractors with a 48-in. sleeper cab. Equipped with the new Cummins Westport ISX12 G heavy-duty natural gas engine with ratings up to 400 HP and 1,450 lb./ft. of torque, the Cascadia natural gas tractor will be offered with a variety of fuel tank configurations up to a 190 diesel gal. equivalent (DGE) capacity for CNG, and up to a 300 gal. (140 DGE) capacity for LNG.
With an anticipated fill-range of more than 800 mi., according to Freightliner Trucks, the turnkey factory-built natural gas sleeper-equipped solution offers fleets an opportunity to use alternative fuel on hauls over longer distances. Pre-series production on the Cascadia CNG sleeper will start in the fourth quarter of 2013. Full production and factory-installed tanks will be available on the Cascadia 113-inch BBC CNG tractor in the first quarter of 2014.
