Thermo King announces 2015 Energy Efficiency Leader Award

Thermo King, manufacturer of transport temperature control solutions for a variety of mobile applications, presented Target with the 2015 Energy Efficiency Leader Award at Target’s Rialto distribution center. Thermo King recognized Target for its use of efficient refrigeration units that deliver innovative ways to optimize energy, increase efficiencies and significantly reduce fuel consumption in its transportation operations in Rialto and across the nation. Significant improvements utilizing efficient refrigeration units in inbound and outbound transportation has resulted in Target exceeding its 2015 goal related to operational efficiencies.

“Target is implementing the highest standards,” said Martin Duffy, vice president and general manager for North America at Thermo King. “Standards we hope that other organizations will emulate in order to make the world a better, safer place.”

Each year, Thermo King presents its Energy Efficiency Leader Award to organizations within the temperature-controlled transportation industry that have shown significant achievements in efficiency and sustainability. Target was chosen as the 2015 award recipient due to its outstanding commitment to the below award criteria that resulted in significant outcomes:

  • Protecting the world’s health through safe, secure and efficient transport of biopharmaceuticals;
  • Furthering food safety with sustainable practices throughout the cold chain; and
  • Increasing industry productivity and efficiency.

Through the use of efficient refrigeration units, companies can meet their goals to reduce pollution within its transportation operations and comply with both Environmental Protection Agency Tier IV Final and California Air Resources Board emissions requirements – a requirement for transport operation in the state of California. Additionally, companies can meet these environmental requirements by utilizing diesel direct electric technology, which allows the engine to run cleaner and eliminates the need for an expensive, high maintenance after-treatment system like a diesel particulate filter (DPF).
