PeopleNet, a provider of fleet mobility technology, has announced the addition of integrated left and right view cameras to its Video Intelligence System, providing fleets with additional liability protection and prevention capabilities.
According to PeopleNet, the left and right view cameras are the first in the industry built into a truck’s spot mirror and not mounted to existing mirror brackets. The position of these cameras, the company added, offers better views of blind spots for drivers, a larger area of vision to capture video and more product durability.
“Almost a quarter of all collisions involving a commercial vehicle happen on the side of the truck, and video provides a neutral eyewitness against at-fault accident claims,” said Jim Angel, vice president of video intelligence solutions at PeopleNet. “When side cameras are combined with a forward-facing camera and telematics, fleets have a powerful tool to reduce accident costs and improve safety on the road for all drivers.”
Launched earlier this year with a forward-facing camera, PeopleNet’s Video Intelligence Solution triggers video from company-controlled settings from a truck’s Onboard Event Recorder (OER), augmenting traditional driver and truck analytics. The addition of the left and right view cameras to its Video Intelligence Solution brings PeopleNet closer to providing a 360-degree view around the truck and trailer, the company said. An in-cab digital video recorder wirelessly transmits videos from the three cameras to the PeopleNet Fleet Manager, a secure online control system for communications and carrier fleet management functions.
