Truck roadside repair costs are on the rise

FleetNet: Roadside mechanical repair costs continue to increase

FleetNet America discussed the results of its 2019 Q3 quarterly truck maintenance cost benchmarking program at the Technology & Maintenance Council annual meeting, announcing that the average cost of a mechanical roadside repair exceeded $400 for the first time since the study began in 2017. Additionally, the $407 average cost is 24% higher than mechanical repairs in the same quarter of 2018.

The report looked at repair costs in the truckload, less-than-truckload and tanker sectors and showed that roadside repairs vary significantly across all three. In every VMRS system, the average truckload carrier experience significantly more roadside repairs than LTL or tanker fleets.

Five select systems account for 65% of all roadside repairs experienced by participating fleets in Q3 of 2019: Tires; Brakes; Lighting; Power Plant; and Cooling Systems.
