An at-a-glance look at PACCAR OTA engine reprogramming

Peterbilt and Kenworth have both joined the OTA engine reprogramming space since the last time we covered this topic in 2018 (you can find that story here). Here’s a quick run-down on getting started with OTA updates from those companies:

Peterbilt

Peterbilt Class 8 trucks with a model year 2017 or newer PACCAR MX-13 and PACCAR MX-11 engines and an active SmartLINQ Remote Diagnostics subscription can update engine and aftertreatment software via the PACCAR Solutions Portal and PACCAR Over-the-Air (OTA) app (first-time users must download the OTA app to log in with PACCARSolutions.com account and enable each chassis).

Customers can also manage service events online through the PACCAR Solutions Service Management portal. Peterbilt dealers also offer Rapid-Check expedited diagnostics services and mobile service units throughout North America.

Kenworth

Kenworth Class 8 trucks equipped with 2017 or later model year PACCAR MX-13 and PACCAR MX-11 engines can receive software updates remotely. Active Kenworth TruckTech+ customers can access these updates on the PACCAR Solutions online portal, or through the PACCAR over-the-air mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

The PACCAR Solutions portal provides customers with visibility to all their Kenworth trucks, truck performance data, and shows those trucks requiring updates, the OEM announced. Once the customer approves the update, the vehicle’s software update package is automatically built and the customer receives an email when the download is ready for installation.

When a truck is parked, a member of the customer’s maintenance team or the driver simply holds down the cruise control set switch for five seconds and the download begins through the secure PACCAR cloud server.
