Photo Gallery: ACT Expo 2022

Surprises were around every corner at ACT Expo. Take the electric International RH truck above. It was hanging out at the Navistar Next technology trailer. No announcement, and International was tight-lipped about the equipment details, but it was there. And here’s a look under the hood.

A pretty cool tease, and hopefully we’ll hear more about it soon. Until then, take a virtual walkthrough of ACT Expo to see what else we might find in this photo gallery.

Ready? Let’s get started.

Inside, Navistar showed off the International eMV trucks that it announced at last year’s show. Very cool to see these electric trucks upfitted for their vocational applications. This year definitely felt more like a truck show–with actual electric trucks ready for actual work–as opposed to just a tech showcase.

Daimler Truck North America drew a crowd after it dropped the curtain from its production series Freightliner eCascadia Class 8 battery electric truck.

5-Volvo

The second-generation VNR Electric took center stage at the Volvo Trucks North America booth. The OEM made several announcements that meant more orders for the rapidly-evolving battery electric truck.

The Peterbilt booth sported a snazzy new Model 579EV sales demo truck.

Mack-LR-Electric-1400

Mack Trucks was bull(dog)-ish on electric with a pair of announcements revolving around its LR Electric refuse truck–a customer order announcement and another EV-certified dealership.

Hydrogen was also happening at the show. Hino popped the hood on its Project Z hydrogen fuel cell truck in its booth.

And, speaking of hydrogen. Cummins X15H hydrogen internal combustion engine drew plenty of attention alongside its hydrogen fuel cell demo truck. Even more, Cummins made an announcement with DTNA that the two will collaborate on a hydrogen fuel cell Freightliner Cascadia with initial units available in 2024.

And Hyzon was back showing off its hydrogen fuel cell and upfitted Freightliners.

Kenworth’s lineup of zero-emissions trucks was literally lined up in the booth.

Inside the most secret building at Volvo Trucks

What’s no secret is the importance of trucking safety, and Volvo’s goal to reduce accidents across the globe.

Black curtains surround the room that's segmented by rolling privacy screens, blocking off the business end of a European Volvo truck (is it an FH? An electric? It's hard to tell.) This is the only area trucking journalists from North America are allowed in. The rest of the building, named Lundby, high-tech center for research and development at Volvo Trucks headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is off-limits. Even several of the Gothenburg-based Volvo Trucks employees that are presenting haven't been allowed in this building before. But what we're here to talk about is anything but a secret.
