Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products has announced a new medium-duty wheel designed for the Sprinter 3500 chassis. This new M-Series forged aluminum wheel is both lightweight and durable, the company said. Designed to improve styling options to RV, shuttle, van and work truck upfitters, the wheel option provides aluminum’s corrosion resistance, lighter weight and improved heat management for extended brake and tire life. In addition, the manufacturer said aluminum wheels enhance the resale value of used vehicles at trade-in.
The 16 x 5.5 J type wheel features 6 elongated hand holes – providing optimal venting in combination with the excellent heat dissipation properties of aluminum. The forged aluminum wheel weighs 16.9 lbs. (a reduction of about 12 lbs. each compared to the steel wheel) with an identical load rating of 2,337 lbs. – offering curb damage resistance and the versatile applications and service for which the Sprinter 3500 is known.
The wheel is available in both brushed (Part No. 250800) and polished finishes (Part Nos. 250801 and 250802), and is offered with a trim accessories package: front and rear axle covers with lug nut covers designed to fit over the OE lug nuts (Front Kit – Part No. 021120 and Rear Kit – Part No. 022120).
Alcoa aluminum wheels help improve productivity with less downtime, their maker said, because they resist curbing and are stronger. They never need painting, so maintenance costs are reduced. Lighter weight adds to greater fuel efficiency.
