Balancing compound offers better ride quality, extended tread life

International Marketing Inc. (IMI) said it introduced Equal Tire Performance over 20 years ago as the world’s first internal balancing compound. Since then, Equal has become the most popular alternative to spin balancing for a smooth ride and preventing uneven tire wear, the maker added. As the costs of tires and fuel rise, many fleets and owner-operators are seeking ways to reduce their cost per mile. Many have turned to the American-made product to help get the most out of every tire.

Equal outperforms traditional spin balancing in two ways: continuous self-adjusting balance and vibration damping. Working inside the tire, Equal constantly adjusts for changes in speed, load, tread wear and the road. IMI adds that it lasts the life of the tire, eliminating the need for rebalancing. Equal is a specially-formulated blend of plastic particles designed to deliver superior vibration damping. Drivers in particular enjoy the improved ride quality while fleet owners and maintenance managers value the extended takeoff mileage.

“It makes a difference in the ride,” said Daniel Harned, a fleet owner who has used Equal for over eight years. “The problem with taking a tire in to [spin] balance it is that truck tires are so thick. When they get worn down halfway or more, your balance changes. And that’s something that Equal changes with.”

Equal delivers one more benefit that is becoming more important, according to IMI: it is a completely green product and as lead weight bans increase across the nation, Equal is a proven alternative that is both environmentally and user friendly.
