Looking to expand into the growing paratransit market, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) is partnering with ARBOC Specialty Vehicles on the co-development of a low-floor, rear-engine custom chassis. Through the partnership, FCCC and the custom builder of paratransit vehicles are working to develop a dedicated chassis for ARBOC’s Spirit of Liberty product line, designed for a variety of low-floor applications like assisted living facilities, hotel and rental car transport, and transit agencies.

The new ARBOC model will be powered by an FCCC rear diesel pusher and feature a low-floor design that will eliminate the step-up over the rear axle. The Spirit of Liberty chassis will be offered in a GVW rating up to 25,900 lbs in three models ranging in body length from 28 feet to 33 feet and seating capacity from 31 to 37 passengers.

FCCC and ARBOC are working toward having a first prototype of the new model in early May and expect to have a second round of prototypes ready by late 2013 or early 2014.
