Freightliner Custom Chassis expands engine offering

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp.'s (FCCC) offering of the Mercedes-Benz MBE 926 continues to grow.

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp.’s (FCCC) offering of the Mercedes-Benz MBE 926 continues to grow. Currently, Forest River, Four Winds International, Gulf Stream Coach and Tiffin Motorhomes offer the MBE engine on select models built on the XC chassis. Now, Alfa Leisure has joined this group of manufacturers by offering the Mercedes-Benz engine.

Detroit Diesel announced in June it had shipped its 100,000th MBE 900 medium-duty engine in the North American market.

The MBE 900 is a 7.2-liter, six-cylinder, medium-duty engine that generates 350 hp at 2,200 rpm and is designed to provide excellent fuel economy.

It offers:

• a lowered engine position that allows a flat-floor rear bedroom and a lower center of gravity for better ride and handling.

• a standard fan clutch that helps reduce engine noise and improve fuel economy.

• a service network comprised of more than 600 Freightliner, Sterling and Detroit Diesel locations.

The MBE 900 engine is distributed and supported by Detroit Diesel in North America. Detroit Diesel is a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG, part of the DaimlerChrysler Truck Group and an affiliate company to Freightliner LLC.
