Hino Trucks received certification of conformity from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for all of its 2007 model year engines. Hino Trucks will start producing its 2008 model year trucks in the first quarter of 2007 at its Long Beach, Calif., assembly plant.
“We are pleased to have met the challenge of producing cleaner engines while still maintaining our competitive edge in fuel economy and engine performance”, said Nick Vermet, senior vice president of sales, marketing and customer support of Hino Trucks. “Hino Trucks supports the actions taken by the Environmental Protection Agency to reduce the emissions by medium and heavy-duty trucks.”
Hino said it used the same technology it uses in Japan to meet Japan’s emissions regulations. The company said it has produced more than 16,000 medium duty trucks using this technology, and estimated those vehicles accumulated more than 160,000,000 miles of actual experience.
The Hino 2007 engine family consists of the JO5D-TF four-cylinder and the JO8E-TV & TW six-cylinder engines available in two horsepower ratings. Hino said it is recognized worldwide for its engine design, combining high-pressure common rail fuel injection, variable geometry turbocharger design and cooled EGR for emission control. Toyota owns controlling interest of Hino Motors Ltd.
