Meritor Tire Inflation System by PSI standard on Dorsey Trailers

Dorsey Trailer has chosen the Meritor Tire Inflation System by Pressure Systems International as its standard automatic tire inflation option. The system keeps tires properly inflated and offers a ThermAlert option that warns drivers of excessive wheel end heat.

Meritor Inc. and Pressure Systems International announced that Dorsey Trailer has chosen the Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) by PSI as its standard automatic tire inflation option. Dorsey, a manufacturer of multiple trailer designs for the heavy-duty transportation industry, has offered MTIS on its trailers for over a decade.

“Our choice of MTIS by PSI is pretty simple; it offers our customers quantifiable value which is important to us,” commented Trey Gary, president of Dorsey Trailer. “Every trailer that we manufacture should meet or exceed customer expectations once they get it on the road and we know from experience that MTIS does not disappoint.” Founded in 1911, Dorsey manufactures composite/steel flatbed, dry vans, reefers, electronics vans and deep drop furniture vans at an 80,000 sq. ft. facility in Elba, Ala.

The system keeps tires properly inflated, which improves tire maintenance management, trailer up time and bottom line ROI, the maker said. It’s a simple design that can be installed as new or a field retrofit on any type of trailer including van, liquid tank, logger, flat bed, chassis, livestock, platform, drop frame, dump, deep drop, doubles, dry bulk, reefer, auto transporter and military.

Proper inflation boosts tire life, increases fuel efficiency and safety, maximizes recap potential, and keeps trailers on the road, the maker said. MTIS is an automatic system with constant air pressure available when needed, so no driver or maintenance manager interaction is required. The patented ThermAlert option warns drivers of excessive wheel end heat, which helps avoid trailer fires or wheel end damage. As fleets have increasingly seen the early warning benefits of the ThermAlert technology, MTIS with this option now accounts for more than 50% of PSI’s production, Meritor noted.

MTIS is compatible with the Meritor WABCO PLC Display for tractor-trailer communications as well as other telematic devices. It is a proven component in the Meritor family of trailer systems. Meritor supplies industry-leading axle, suspension, brake, automatic tire inflation and wheel end components to original equipment trailer manufacturers and to the replacement market via distribution outlets located throughout North America. After-sales service support and technical assistance are always available from knowledgeable Meritor representatives. Trailer systems and components are backed by Meritor’s industry-competitive warranty, global services and support, the company added.
