PCL said it has joined Hankook Tires’ CEO in his bid to alert drivers to the dangers of driving with poorly inflated tires. As an international expert in tire inflation equipment, PCL sees it as its duty to inform customers about the safety risks associated with tires that are not inflated properly. PCL said it also promotes the environmental benefits of accurate inflation, including decreased fuel consumption and increased tire life.
In his speech, Seung Hwa Suh quoted a survey from the Rubber Manufacturers Association, which showed that millions of U.S. drivers fail to ensure their tires are inflated properly, with only one in six vehicles having accurate pressure, and 55% with at least one tire under-inflated.
In the U.S., California lead the way with legislation coming into effect earlier this year, ensuring that the majority of companies supplying tire inflation must deliver inflation to an accuracy of +/- 2psi. The California Air Resources Board believes this move could save 75 million gallons of fuel per year.
All products in PCL’s comprehensive range of tire inflators meet the California requirements as standard. Each inflator is tested and individually certified to show the accuracy delivered at the time of manufacture, and carries a full 12-month performance and accuracy guarantee.
Simon Shorter, director of PCL, said, “As an international provider of tire inflation equipment, we see it as our duty to educate drivers about the necessity of maintaining accurate tire pressure, with road safety and the environment of paramount importance, and with the additional benefit of extending tire life. We back Hankook’s call for global awareness of the importance of accurate tire pressure, and hope that other US states will join California by introducing this legislation.”
