3M said it is freeing paint professionals from the traditional process of paint finishing with its new Perfect-It Denibbing System. The proprietary system features micro-sanding technology with innovative tools, abrasives and polishes needed for delivering a perfect paint job. It dramatically reduces the amount of time spent on paint finishing, the company said.
The system is designed to remove dirt nibs faster and easier than the traditional process, which helps paint professionals do more in less time. The micro-sanding technology reduces the paint finishing area down to less than a size of a quarter and saves time by allowing users to sand dirt nibs away while minimizing flat spots. The micro-polishing technology delivers a high-gloss finish while reducing clean-up time, 3M said.
“We have done extensive hands-on research with our customers and teams from 3M’s laboratory, technical services and marketing areas to re-invent the process of finishing a paint job,” said Mike Conway, marketing manager for 3M. “We looked at the steps involved in the process, the traditional tools and the abrasives and polishes to see where we could apply our technology to reduce time needs and improve the finish. The end result is a complete system that makes it easier and more productive to deliver perfect paint jobs.”
The system includes:
· Perfect-It Denibbing Tool, a cordless, lightweight oscillating mini-sander powered by a lithium battery.
· Perfect-It Denibbing Abrasives, dime-sized micro-sanding discs that allow users to sand precisely where the dirt nibs are, reducing the overall size of the repair area and the time needed for the repair.
· Perfect-It Denibbing Polisher and Polish, a dual-action air polisher designed to work with an innovative polish formulation to provide one-step buffing on most paint systems with virtually no sling, no sticking and no smearing.
“With the Perfect-It Denibbing System, paint professionals can reduce their cycle time and free up their paint booth for more productive work flow,” added Conway. “It is also designed to be used with the Dirt Trap Protection System from 3M to further reduce nibs in the paint. Together, the two systems can completely change a body shop’s paint results.”
