Air disc front brakes from Bendix are now available on Peterbilt Motors Co. Models 382 and 348. Peterbilt’s Model 382 is designed for regional haul and vocational applications and the Model 348 is for low horsepower and torque vocational use, such as on dumps, mixers and cranes where a more compact vehicle envelope is required.
Advantages of air disc brakes, Peterbilt noted, include reduced stopping distances and more stable stops due to minimized brake force variation, as well as extended maintenance intervals and reduced downtime during service. “Our vocational customers will recognize the value of this addition to these models,” said Charles Cook, Peterbilt vocational market segment manager. “These brakes will add value as they will require less maintenance, and last longer.”
The vocational product line from Peterbilt is now available with a range of split shaft power take-off (PTO) options from Namco. Split-Shaft PTOs are designed for high speed and torque characteristics necessary to operate specialized equipment that requires a PTO installed rearward of the transmission. Among the applications for this technology are concrete pumpers, oilfield equipment, vacuum trucks, mobile water or petroleum drilling rigs and emergency vehicles.
