Phillips has released their Permalogic Selector System designed specifically for fleets using refrigerated trailers and liftgates.
The system is integrated into a sealed junction box at the nose of the trailer. A dual pole socket is used to pull power directly from the truck batteries along with a direct connection from the reefer batteries. By sensing the source of power with the most charging capacity, the system directs the charge to a DC-to-DC converter, which boosts the voltage to 14.4 volts. This accelerates the charging process between deliveries to ensure the liftgate has sufficient power at the next stop.
The system also works on a reefer trailer when it is staged for transfer, or not connected to a truck. By drawing power from the running reefer unit every time it cycles on, liftgate batteries get a frequent recharge to assure they are operational the next time the liftgate is used.
The system is available to buy as individual components, or as a kit that includes the Permalogic Selector nose box with a dual pole socket, a Trailcharger (DC-to-DC converter), a reefer harness and installation manual.
