WABCO shows air disc brakes, lane departure technology

WABCO Holdings Inc. showcased its Maxx air disc brake technology, which the company said is a new and complete range of high performance, single-piston air disc brakes for trucks, buses and trailers worldwide, at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2012 in Hanover, Germany.

WABCO Holdings Inc. showcased its Maxx air disc brake technology – which the company said is a new and complete range of high performance, single-piston air disc brakes for trucks, buses and trailers worldwide – at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2012 in Hanover, Germany.

WABCO said the range includes Maxxus 22 for trucks and buses in North America, which is based on single-piston Maxx 22 technology that the company pioneered in Europe. Maxx 22 and Maxxus 22 have been adopted by globally operating original equipment manufacturers in series production such as MAN in Europe and Daimler Trucks North America, respectively, the company added.

WABCO said its Maxx range reduces the vehicle’s overall weight, boosting fuel efficiency and enabling more transport payload. WABCO is the sole supplier for 17- and 19-in. Maxx air disc brake applications for series production in 2013 at a global manufacturer of commercial vehicles headquartered in Europe.

“Our new and improved Maxx range further demonstrates WABCO’s technology leadership as we extend our breakthrough single-piston air disc brakes into specific truck, bus and trailer applications in different regions of the world,” said Mike Thompson, WABCO vice president of compression and braking. “WABCO’s Maxx and Maxxus air disc brakes represent a game-changing generation of high performance, low weight braking technology that further improves vehicle safety and efficiency through our passion for innovation.”

WABCO also introduced OnLane technology, a lane departure warning system (LDWS) for trucks and buses that the company said increases vehicle safety by providing the driver with visual and acoustic warnings or an optional seat-vibration warning in case of unintentional lane departure, which is one of the most common causes of accidents involving commercial vehicles, the company said.

OnLane integrates a camera and an electronic control unit into a single, compact box through engineering excellence. OnLane can be mounted at the top or bottom of the vehicle’s windshield, WABCO added.
