WABCO supplies new heavy-duty air disc brakes to MAN

The company began deliveries of new NG22MAX air disc brakes for heavy duty truck applications in Europe to MAN, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles and diesel engines. Weighing only 86 lbs. including brake pads, it is the lightest air disc brake of its kind, allowing trucks to increase payload and improve fuel economy while also reducing maintenance and service costs.

WABCO Holdings Inc. announced that nine months ago the company began deliveries of new NG22MAX air disc brakes for heavy duty truck applications in Europe to MAN, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles and diesel engines. It marks the first application of new WABCO NG22MAX air disc brakes on heavy-duty trucks and results so far demonstrate superb performance, the company reported.

Weighing only 86 lbs. (39 kilograms) including brake pads, WABCO NG22MAX is the lightest air disc brake of its kind, according to the company. As a result, trucks can increase payload and improve fuel economy while also reducing maintenance and service costs due to increased brake pad thickness and exchangeable wear sensors.

“This major contract with MAN is another mark of WABCO’s technology leadership as we expand our breakthrough single-piston air disc braking technology into heavy duty truck applications,” said Nikhil Varty, WABCO vice president, compression and braking. “We are proud to further grow our partnership with MAN as we provide them with more choice to satisfy their needs in heavy duty vehicles through WABCO’s innovative offering of industry-leading NG22MAX high performance, low weight air disc brakes.”
