Nevada Trucking Association recognizes Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. More than 40% of reports by truck drivers in recent years involved victims who are minors, according to Truckers Against Trafficking.

Many truck drivers have taken formal training offered by Truckers Against Trafficking. TAT has been recruiting and training drivers since 2009.

Seventeen trucking firms in Nevada are partners with TAT, with more than 1,300 trained drivers from the Silver State. Nationwide, TAT has 1.4 million professional drivers using proven tools and techniques to identify victims and come to their aid. TAT’s training is available to anyone. Anyone can report a suspicious situation to the National Human Trafficking Hotline (NHTH), which is run by the Polaris Project.

The latest technical materials from Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems are designed to help technicians properly set up, inspect and diagnose several components integrated with advanced driver assistance technologies, including trailer antilock brakes, steering systems and forward-looking cameras.

“The safety systems on today’s commercial vehicles are more road-proven and effective in supporting safe drivers than ever,” said Nicole Oreskovic, Bendix vice president of sales and marketing. “They’re also more complex and interconnected, which means we need to thoroughly support the skilled people who keep them in top operating condition.”
