To address the increasing cost of tire maintenance, roadside delays and fuel, TireStamp Corp., a tire monitoring and tire asset management systems supplier, has announced the TireVigil InTow solution for commercial fleet operators who are plagued with trailer tire problems.

Trailer tires are the least maintained tires on a tractor-trailer rig due to their general lack of driver attention and restricted availability for inspection and maintenance, according to the company. As a result, trailer tires comprise 75 percent of enroute tire failures, which are caused by chronic underinflation and penetrating objects. This impacts fleets not only in their tire budgets but also in fuel consumption as trailers in single trailer configurations account for 45 percent of the tractor-trailer’s fuel consumption, and 65 percent in doubles configurations.

TireVigil InTow has the capability of continuously monitoring trailer tires whether rolling down the highway, dropped at a customer’s location, or being serviced. Utilizing tire data collected from tire pressure sensors and wireless technology, tire pressure and temperature data is transmitted via trailer asset management telematics devices to TireVigil in-house servers. TireVigil’s sophisticated tire management software can alert the fleet manager about critical trailer tire information from an Internet-accessible computer at anytime/anywhere. Never again will a fleet manager be caught unaware of tire problems even though they are occurring hundreds of miles away.

In many over-the-road operations trailers frequently are dropped in a customer’s yard for long periods of time, and due to a variety of causes, their tires can go flat. TireVigil InTow will advise the fleet of critical conditions and, before a tractor is dispatched to pick up the trailer, the fleet can arrange for the tire’s repair, thereby avoiding driver delay time and increasing productivity or preventing catastrophic loss of the tire and reducing costs.

TireVigil InTow, its maker said, gives fleet operators total control over tire management and assists them in managing escalating tire operating and maintenance costs, labor costs, and fuel costs that reduce roadside delays and improve safety. Fleet trailer tire data is thoroughly analyzed and reports are generated on tire pressure, temperature and maintenance performance. Standard or customized management reports can be generated by tire type, trailer type, maintenance facility and other analytical metrics giving managers accurate, actionable and timely tire information that can directly translate to dollar savings and improved operator safety, according to TireStamp Corp.

TireVigil InTow is a subscription-based service suited for commercial fleets, private fleets and trailer leasing companies and is available through leading telematics suppliers, OEMs and Systems Integrators throughout the United States and Canada.
