Volvo Group has officially opened a new Central Distribution Center (CDC) in Byhalia, Miss. The $70 million facility will support the company’s Mack and Volvo truck lines and employ 250 people.
“The Volvo Group is pleased to officially open its new Central Distribution Center in Byhalia,” Christer Svärd, senior vice president of Volvo Group Logistics Services, said in a statement. “The new facility represents the hard work and dedication of our community leaders, employees of the new facility and the Volvo Group. The CDC will enable us to more efficiently handle an increased volume of parts distribution, while also significantly improving customer service.”
The new CDC has been built to be environmentally conscious and to maximize energy saving. The orientation of the facility was set to maximize natural daylight throughout the day and reduce energy consumption. Energy usage is kept minimal through the use of innovative building materials, state-of-the-art LED lighting and a comprehensive building automation system. Built in just over six months, the facility is now fully operational.
“This project symbolizes an exciting turning point for Marshall County, and its positive impact on the local economy will extend not only across the county but northwest Mississippi,” said Justin Hall, executive director of the Marshall County (Miss.) Industrial Development Authority. “I’m excited to welcome the Volvo Group to our local community and look forward to the company’s commitment to workforce development, leadership and community stewardship – all of which are already apparent.”
