Alliance Parts has announced the introduction of the 2007 Alliance Premium Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). Alliance Parts is the private label brand of Freightliner LLC and offers a broad line of quality, affordable all-makes parts and accessories with warranty coverage throughout North America. With the introduction of the new 2007 model APU, Alliance has taken the next step in the evolution of anti-idling solutions to help drivers manage fuel costs and stay in compliance with state and federal laws, the company said.
The Alliance Premium APU also offers design advantages by using a freestanding system that operates independently of the factory OEM HVAC system. The APU integrates with the truck only through a supply and return line to the fuel tank. As a result, the Alliance APU does not violate any OEM warranties and will not cause wear and tear of the truck’s engine. With no inverter needed, the Alliance APU also greatly reduces wear and tear on truck batteries.
Backed by decades of Freightliner know-how, the Alliance Premium APU builds on Alliance’s history of offering high quality parts at a great value. "We have been working with our strategic supplier for six years on the design of this APU," said Kevin Esser, director of parts & service marketing, Freightliner LLC. "Through customer feedback and extensive market research, we were able to identify what today’s drivers expect from an APU, and included numerous standard features that are available only as options on other APUs in the market."
According to the company, standard features on the Alliance Premium APU include custom ductwork with six directional louvers to ensure that cold air is well distributed throughout the sleeper. The unit has six 110-volt outlets to provide plenty of power for a microwave, television and other appliances. A 60-amp battery charger charges the truck’s batteries when the APU is running. A simple control panel mounted near the bunk makes operating the APU easy.
Along with power and convenience, several engineering enhancements resulted in significant noise reduction. A new air intake and filter design, custom engineered muffler as well as additional insulation material make the Alliance APU one of the quietest on the market. "At the end of the day, when a driver has been on the road all day and wants to sleep, nothing is worse than being kept up by a noisy engine or APU. Our APU only generates 73 – 77 decibels, so drivers will be able to sleep in quiet and comfort," said Esser.
The Alliance Premium APU is a universal system engineered and designed for all makes and models of commercial vehicles. Custom engineered versions of the Alliance APU are offered for the Freightliner Coronado, Columbia and Century Class. Its attractive diamond plate, step box design can be placed behind the fuel tank, making it look like the unit was installed by the factory. At 418 pounds, it is one of the lightest diesel-powered APUs on the market. The unit includes a limited warranty of two years or 4,000 hours, whichever comes first, the maker said.
