Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) has launched the new Continental HSL2 (Heavy Steer Long Haul) steer tire to the North American market. The HSL2 is the first in a series of the next generation fuel-efficient tires to be launched. Designed as an all-position steer tire for long haul, over-the-highway use, the manufacturer said the Continental HSL2 utilizes the latest enhancements in tire technology to extend tire life while increasing the fuel economy benefits of the steer axle position.

Continental said the HSL2 features a new tread compound that provides a significant increase in removal miles along with the qualities necessary to increase fuel economy. Introduced on the HSL2 is the patented FlexLock technology, available only on Continental tire products. This feature offers an interlocking mechanism that promotes even tread wear across the footprint and increases stability, Continental said. Additional vertical sipes paired with FlexLock assist in the prevention of excessive heat build-up in the tire’s shoulder.

The HSL2 also features Continental’s exclusive Visual Alignment Indicators (VAI) located on the shoulder ribs. Continental’s VAI system assists users in visually identifying tire tracking irregularities within the first 5/32-in. of tire wear, so that mechanical adjustments to the vehicle can be made in order to extend the life of the tire. Early detection and prevention can mean significant savings in tire bills, as well as substantial benefits such as increased tread life and protection of the casing for retreading.

“The new HSL2 is a great addition to the premium line up of Continental truck tires,” states Clif Armstrong, marketing director for Continental Tire the Americas. “By combining the latest technology in compounding and tread design with features like FlexLock Technology and VAI, the HSL2 meets the needs of the long haul fleet segment.”

The new Continental HSL2 is available in the following sizes: 11R22.5, 11R24.5, 275/80R22.5 and 285/75R24.5. For more information, visit http://www.continental-truck.com.
