Eaton launches Fuller Advantage Series transmissions

Available in both manual and automated designs, the new Fuller Advantage Series of 10-speed heavy-duty transmissions from Eaton are designed to reduce weight, increase fuel economy, improve shift feel and lower maintenance costs.

Available in both manual and automated designs, the new Fuller Advantage Series of 10-speed heavy-duty transmissions from Eaton, according to the manufacturer, are designed to reduce weight, increase fuel economy, improve shift feel and lower maintenance costs. Offered in direct and overdrive versions, initial production of the 10-speeds scheduled for this September will include 17 new manual specifications with ratios ranging from 15.42 to 17.53. Automated versions are scheduled for production in the first quarter of 2014.

A main feature of the new Fuller Advantage Series transmission line is a lube system that reduces oil churn energy losses found in traditional transmissions by nearly 33%, the manufacturer says. With less heat being generated, Eaton adds, the result is fewer engine fan cycles, reducing horsepower demand and promoting better overall fuel economy performance.

Also improving MPG, the company notes, are weight savings up to 75 lbs. with aluminum shift bar housings, auxiliary section covers and range cylinders. While exact weight savings are dependent on the make of truck, Eaton reports initial fleet and third party test results showing up to 1.9% fuel economy improvement versus comparable transmissions.

Fuller Advantage Series transmission customers also will realize maintenance cost reductions, according to Eaton. In addition to not requiring a cooler and corresponding lines and fittings, the manufacturer points out, the transmissions have an oil level sight glass that simplifies routine oil checks, and use only 16 pints of oil, nearly half the amount used in similar transmissions.

Specs for the new Fuller Advantage Series include Gross Commercial Weight (GCW) ratings up to 80,000 lbs. without an oil cooler, and expansion to 110,000 lbs. post product introduction, torque capacities from 950 to 1,850 lb./ft., standard eight- and six-bolt Power Take-Off (PTO) openings, and an optional through-shaft PTO. All new Fuller Advantage Series transmissions come with a standard five-year/750,000-mile warranty for linehaul applications.
