STEMCO, a maker of heavy-duty truck and trailer wheel end products, introduces AirBAT RF DAS (Driver Alert System), a new product added to the BAT RF family of technology products. The Driver Alert System is an in-cab indicator that alerts the driver to tires that are under inflated.
Under-inflated tires cause fleets as much as 3 percent of fuel costs, according to STEMCO. Low tire pressure also leads directly to tire failure and premature tire wear. AirBAT RF DAS works in conjunction with AirBAT tire pressure monitoring sensors and informs the driver when tractor and trailer tires are improperly inflated, its maker said. Instantly and wirelessly, the AirBAT sensors send readings to the DAS unit mounted in the cab. The driver is alerted with a flashing light as soon as a tire is low on air and knows immediately to add air to the tire as soon as possible.
Under-inflated tires lead to tire failures and can be safety hazards. “One of our customers noticed the DAS was signaling a problem on the same tire two days in a row, even after having added air to the tire,” indicates Jim Reis, VP new business development. “When the tire was inspected a nail was found, so in this case the DAS saved a tire.”
The DAS unit incorporates patented technology to automatically bind any tractor/trailer combination that is equipped with the AirBAT RF sensors for everyday “drop and hook” situations, STEMCO said. The AirBAT Driver Alert System is a way to keep fuel and operating costs in check.
The AirBAT system of tire pressure sensors and driver alert unit keeps drivers informed so they can take action for proper tire inflation, STEMCO stated.
